Dear Fish & Game Commission Sam Cotten,

As an Alaskan whose family and friends depend on the bounty of Alaska's incredible resources to make ends meet, I must inform you that we the people of this state have been unfairly penalized during a time forecasting a record-breaking Kenai River sockeye return. The 4.731 Million Kenai River sockeye return pre-season forecast has put commercial fishing in the top tier of the KR Sockeye Management Plan which now allocates 84 Emergency Order hours each week of Commercial fishing in addition to the Monday & Thursday 12 hour scheduled periods.

At the same time, the top tier level of the management plan has ELIMINATED the TUESDAY 24 hour 0001 to 2400 Mandatory Beach Sites fishing closure window. This Cause and Effect scenario now prevents the Alaskan owners of this resource a FAIR opportunity to participate in harvesting this record-breaking return of Kenai sockeye salmon that this TUESDAY component of the plan was designed to provide for. The total of 108 commercial fishing hours per week leaves little time for any recovery of fish passage into the river and DENIES Personal Use and Sport anglers their FAIR share of the opportunity to harvest for their families in this time of exceptional abundance.

In light of this unfair and unjust exploitation of the Kenai River sockeye salmon run with only regard for the commercial interests, I and my family do hereby DEMAND you contact the Commercial fisheries manager in Soldotna and eliminate EO fishing time for the Beach Sites FROM THE THURSDAY closure window to at least 0001 MONDAY each of the next two weeks to allow for Alaskans to share in this resource FAIRLY. That still leaves 72 EO available hours of fishing plus the 2 scheduled 12 hour days for management to control fish passage during each week. If you put the fish in the river we WILL harvest them too.

Respectfully,
